Male. Head narrowed behind eyes more strongly than that in female. Antennae 18-segmented; 1st flagellar segment 3 times its width. Apical abdominal opening slit-shaped, occupying entire width of posterior surface and third of lateral surface of carapace. Anterior part of mesonotum punctate, with smoothed microsculpture, shining. Legs darker than those in female, almost entirely black; wings more uniformly infuscate; veins in basal half of wing darker.
Body length 4.2 mm.
Differential diagnosis. M. ibericus is closely related to M. rimulosus (Thomson, 1874); differing from its variation with swollen temples in the distinctly weaker striae of the metasoma and the wider apical abdominal opening in male (occupying no more than 0.2 of lateral surface of the carapace in M. rimulosus). Among the eastern-Palaearctic species, M. ibericus is closely related to M. nigrimembris Tobias (Tobias, 1992, 2000); differing from it, in addition to the head widened behind the ocelli, in the distinctly paler wings. Its distinctions from M. laplandicus sp. n., described below, are listed in the key.
